The Torture Garden
I recently discovered "The Torture Garden", a 1898 novel from Octave Mirbeau. I was surprised that I had never heard of it before, let alone read it. And read it I certainly did, with mouth agape. It is apparently one of the most controversial books ever written. From the website Bookkake: "Once described as “the most sickening work of art of the nineteenth century”, Mirbeau’s sensual and disturbing novel follows a young man’s journey to the ends of desire and depravity in a grand Chinese palace garden where torture is enjoyed, and practiced, as a form of art itself."
And Mirbeau prefaces the novel with this ironic dedication: "To the priests, the soldiers, the judges, to those people who educate, instruct and govern men, I dedicate these pages of Murder and Blood."

Midsummer Nightmare - 2nd Season Announcement
This Sunday, June 22nd, at 9:30PM in the Four Moon Tavern (1847 Roscoe, Chicago) WildClaw Theatre will announce it's Second Season.
Starting at 7PM, we will be celebrating with horror quizzes, raffles and assorted bloody activities at our Midsummer Nightmare Benefit. Anything you eat or drink until 10PM - WildClaw will receive a portion of the money you spend. A great way to help us bring the horror to Chicago and have fun at the same time. Come on down, me pretties!

Reynolds, from The Great God Pan
For those of you that missed the show, here is a tiny taste, and perhaps enough to whet your appetite for our next horrific venture. A little bitty slice of video from our production of The Great God Pan, which, while it is not representitive of the show as a whole, it is a lotta fun. One more thing. . . for those who might be squeamish, there is a tiny little bit of blood.
After meeting face to face with Helen, Reynolds is left with a little bit of truth, which proves a very bitter pill to swallow.
Reynolds is played by Steve Herson.
